When she decided on a very daring look for the 2023 BAFTAs, the Princess of Wales surprised royal fans on Sunday.
Although Catherine’s Alexander McQueen dress was a repurposed piece from a previous appearance at the awards show, she completely reworked her look by making significant alterations to the gown and also by accessorizing with very striking pieces.
The mother-of-three chose to wear full-length black gloves by Cornelia James, the late Queen’s favorite glovemaker, for the first time in her nearly 13 years of public royal life. She first started wearing them in 1947, while on her honeymoon with Prince Philip.
Princess Catherine chose a matching Jimmy Choo clutch, Zara’s cascading floral earrings, and a stunning pair of Aquazzura gold pumps to complete the ensemble.
Even Hollywood celebrities who were present at the awards, like Catherine Zeta-Jones, commented on Catherine’s daring ensemble.
Michael Douglas’ wife left the following comment on Prince William and Catherine’s most recent Instagram post, which features the couple walking the red carpet side by side: “Glorious,” along with a red heart emoji.
Although a majority of her followers agreed with the Welsh actress, it’s safe to say that Sunday’s outfit is one of her most controversial ones, with many people focusing on the gloves.
“Perfection from the shoulders up. which gloves? The gloves are a definite NO,” one person wrote, while another added, “My least favorite look of hers. Consider them to be overly modernized. Just be who you are, which you both do so beautifully. has a Cruella de Vil feel to it. a significant deterrent.”
“This is probably the first outfit she’s ever worn that I didn’t love,” said a third.
Yet another admirer commended her for stepping outside of her comfort zone and attempting novel things.
“She completed the gloves, and I’m proud of her. a little edgy, uncomfortable for her, “They added an okay emoji to their writing.
