At a family gathering on Saturday, May 6, at Buckingham Palace, King Charles reportedly raised a glass to celebrate his grandson Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
The kind gesture is believed to have been made at a private luncheon following Charles and Camilla’s coronation at Westminster Abbey, according to the Mail.
King Charles and Queen Camilla left the ceremony and began their coronation procession back to Buckingham Palace, where they gathered with senior members of the royal family, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to watch the flypast.
The newly crowned royals hosted a private lunch for family members after their appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, but the Duke of Sussex left right away when the service was over. As soon as Harry touched down in the UK on Friday, he was driven to Heathrow Airport and boarded a flight back to California, where his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were celebrating the eldest’s fourth birthday.
Since the explosive Netflix docuseries and Spare, his frank memoir, were both released in December and January, respectively, Saturday’s historic event marked the first time Harry had been reunited with his family.
The father-of-two returned to the UK in March for a hearing at the High Court, but HELLO! previously reported that it was unlikely he would have run into either his brother, Prince William, or Princess Kate while there. The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were away at the time for the Easter break.
In the third row, next to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Harry, who was dressed in a morning suit for the event, even had a tender moment with his aunt Princess Anne, who was seated in the row in front.
He entered the Abbey with the Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and their husbands, grinning and appearing to be in good spirits. Harry’s response to King Charles’ arrival was also captured on camera.
The country’s first coronation in 70 years saw King Charles and Queen Camilla crowned in front of 2,300 guests during the historic ceremony.
The ceremony, which began at 11 am, went through several phases before the Archbishop of Canterbury crowned the royal couple. Here you can read about the entire service and crowning.
The Prince of Wales performed his ceremonial duties in front of his father during a special moment during the service. After being crowned, Prince William, the King’s eldest son, approached him and recited: “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb.” The King’s expression was touched. God please help me. The father of three then made an emotional kissing gesture toward King Charles.
