Dutch King Willem-Alexander appears to have made light of the controversy surrounding the Mother’s Day photo that the Princess of Wales took—a photo that photo agencies removed due to possible editing.
During a public meeting on Wednesday, the Dutch monarch was questioned by a group of kids regarding a picture of his own family. The 56-year-old joked back, saying “Really? I didn’t Photoshop it, anyway.”

Kensington Palace unveiled the Princess of Wales’s first photo since her January abdominal surgery on Mother’s Day. But it didn’t take long to discover that some areas of the picture had been Photoshopped.
A PA spokesman said: “Like other news agencies, PA Media issued the handout image provided by Kensington Palace of the Princess of Wales and her children in good faith yesterday. As a result of the alterations, several photo agencies pulled the image.
“We reported on the image last night after learning of concerns regarding it, and we made it plain that we needed Kensington Palace to provide immediate clarification on the image. We are removing the image from our picture service in the lack of that clarification.”

The image sparked so many questions that Catherine did the unusual thing of apologizing in public, saying, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.” I wanted to apologize for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from our sharing of the family photo yesterday. I sincerely hope that Mother’s Day was enjoyed by all who participated. C.”
Later, the Princess went on her first public appearance following her surgery when she was seen riding in a car with her husband, Prince William, while the Prince of Wales made his way to the Commonwealth Day ceremony. The mother of three chose to attend a private engagement rather than go with her husband.
It is anticipated that Catherine will return to her full-time job following the Easter break. On March 31, which is Easter Sunday, the royal family usually attends church in Windsor.

At this point, it’s unknown if Catherine will attend the service with the family or if she plans to continue attending public events once the kids’ summer vacations are over.
Kensington Palace officially announced on January 17 that Catherine had been admitted to the exclusive London Clinic in preparation for her scheduled abdominal surgery.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” the palace said in a lengthy statement. She wishes for the public to comprehend her wish to keep her children’s lives as normal as possible and her desire to keep her private medical records. Therefore, updates on Her Royal Highness’s progress will only be given by Kensington Palace when there is noteworthy new information to disseminate.

“The Princess of Wales regrets having to cancel her forthcoming engagements and extends her condolences to everyone involved. She is eager to get as many back as she can, as quickly as she can.”
