The release of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new Netflix series is just around the corner, but before it does, the Duchess of Sussex clarified what kind of series viewers can anticipate.
The former actress made an off-the-cuff comment about appearing in the renowned reality TV series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in her most recent Archetypes podcast during a conversation with Andy Cohen.
The Real Housewives executive producer joked that he would create a show around Meghan if she continued to watch the Housewives TV series, which chronicles the lives of wealthy women in various US and UK cities.
When the drama in her own life reached a level that she no longer craved, the Duchess said: “I stopped watching the Housewives.” Andy added, “other people’s,” and Meghan agreed.
She was informed by the TV producer that numerous people had questioned him regarding Meghan’s interest in joining the popular series after her move to Los Angeles. So you really mean this is my audition for the Real Housewives of Montecito? she asked in jest.
You don’t need to audition; the show will be built around you, he responded. Insisting that her upcoming Netflix series would not be a fly-on-the-wall reality show, Meghan then quickly affirmed that “there would be no reality show.”
On December 8, Prince Harry and Meghan will debut their eagerly awaited series. The eye-opening film, originally titled Chapters, is centered on the enduring love story of Meghan and Harry. In 2020, the couple agreed to a multi-year, $100 million contract with the industry giant streaming service.
Meghan and Harry said at the time: “Our goal will be to produce informational yet inspirational content. Making motivational family programming is important to us as newlyweds as well. With [Netflix’s] unprecedented reach, we can share content that inspires action.”
The Duchess also stated the following in a recent interview with Variety magazine: “Even though it might not be how we would have told the story, it’s nice to be able to trust a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired with it. But that isn’t the reason we’re telling you. Our story will be seen through their eyes because we trusted them with it.”
Meghan and Harry have confirmed that their Netflix docuseries will primarily focus on their love story, despite the royals remaining mum about the specifics of their project.
The mother of two revealed it will focus on our love story in an interview with The Cut, saying, “The piece of my life I haven’t been able to share, that people haven’t been able to see, is our love story.”
