While Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are currently enjoying the summertime sunshine with their parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a significant announcement on Thursday.
The North American country of Colombia is home to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who announced that they would be taking a royal tour of the region. Although the tour’s specifics are largely unknown, it has been confirmed that the couple will travel to the nation’s capital, Bogota, as well as its coastal regions later this year.
The couple was invited by Colombia’s vice president, Francia Marquez, who confirmed the trip by saying: “The Duke and Duchess will accompany me on their tour to Bogota and the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali.”
“They will have the wonderful chance to interact with leaders, young people, and women who represent the voices and aspirations of Colombians dedicated to advancement in these lively settings. The Duke and Duchess will encounter Colombia’s rich legacy in addition to these profound exchanges.”
“Their visit coincides with the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, which will take place in Colombia this November,” the statement said in its conclusion. The Duke and Duchess established the Archewell Foundation, which is well known for being a global leader in promoting a safer online environment.
The upcoming conference will present a thorough framework for establishing safer online and offline environments, addressing problems like cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the effects of these dangers on mental health. It will provide commitments and workable solutions for nations all over the world. The Archewell Foundation and The Duke and Duchess will participate in a number of initiatives pertaining to this significant subject matter while they are in town. We have no doubt that their presence will highlight Colombia’s standing as a leader in innovation and culture.”
Whether Harry and Meghan will bring their kids on the tour is still up in the air. Prince Archie went to Africa with the two when they were working royals. However, Archie and Lilibet stayed at home when they traveled to Nigeria earlier this year.
HELLO’s royal editor Emily Nash discussed on A Right Royal Podcast why the kids didn’t go with the former royals, saying, “It’s not easy to do these things at the best of times, let alone with small children.”
“And Nigeria, a very, very big country that also has some of its own security issues at the moment,” Chris Ship of ITV continued. Therefore, if you ask me now, I would have assumed that they won’t be taking their children.”
After Meghan learned that she was descended from Nigeria, Harry and Meghan took a three-day tour of the country back in May.
The three main themes of their trip to Nigeria were sports, mental health, and honoring women in leadership roles. On their last day together, which also happened to be Mother’s Day in the US, Meghan honored her kids by showing up to a reception held at the State Governor House in Lagos.
“I am very, very grateful, I am very humbled, and today is Mother’s Day,” the Duchess said to the guests. Therefore, it feels right to be here among family and in the motherland, even though we are obviously missing our kids and I am missing my babies. Thus, I sincerely appreciate your generosity and these lovely names. We are eager to return, and I sincerely appreciate it.”
