The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly left Frogmore Cottage on King Charles’ Windsor estate, according to Buckingham Palace.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have left Frogmore Cottage, the Keeper of the Privy Purse, Sir Michael Stevens, announced. The Duke and Duchess have reimbursed the Sovereign Grant for the costs associated with the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, leaving the Crown with a significantly improved asset.
After Harry’s memoir, Spare, was published, King Charles reportedly served them with an eviction notice, forcing Prince Harry and Meghan to leave their possessions behind.
In order to move to their £11 million home in Santa Barbara, Prince Harry and Meghan will have removed all of their personal belongings from the five-bedroom, four-bathroom Grade II listed home. However, there is one item the couple was compelled to leave behind.
Before announcing their decision to leave the royal family, the royals had only lived on the estate for six months. In preparation for the arrival of their son, Archie Harrison, the Sussexes spent £2.4 million renovating Frogmore Cottage into a four-bedroom and nursery property before leaving.
The installation of a “eco-boiler,” which provides limitless hot water and low-carbon heat, was one of Harry and Meghan’s extensive renovations, according to The Sun. The advanced, eco-friendly equipment, which is thought to have cost up to £50,000, would have had to be given up by the royals.
With Meghan seen painting her nails in the kitchen and the couple seen kissing while she’s perched on a kitchen worktop, Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary gave royal fans their first look inside Frogmore Cottage.
It was the first time that private images taken inside a royal residence had been made available to the general public.
During the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the summer of 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan spent their final night at Frogmore Cottage together. At the same time, the couple also celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday.
During his High Court trials in London earlier this year, Prince Harry is believed to have spent his final night at the Windsor-based residence.
