The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gained notoriety for their public displays of affection after going public with their relationship in 2016—especially considering that this was unusual for the royal family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle frequently broke the rules and couldn’t contain how in love they were feeling, in contrast to the likes of King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Kate, and others who have very rarely held hands or shared a kiss in public.
These PDAs have become less frequent over the past few years, according to body language expert Darren Stanton, who also notes that they are “not being as tactile with one another” as their “relationship has evolved.”
Darren provided the following explanation on behalf of Betfair Bingo while analysing the compatibility of the royal couple: “Harry and Megan’s relationship has evolved. Their public displays of affection have evolved significantly over time, based on their body language.
“When they started dating and became more established as an official couple, they were very affectionate in public, almost more affectionate than William and Kate.”
Remember how the Duke kissed his wife after winning the Sentebale Polo Cup in 2018? Or how, during their royal tour of Africa in 2019, Harry said a heartfelt goodbye to his wife before leaving for his solo engagement?
Darren stated that although they still occasionally win over fans with their romantic displays, they usually keep their relationship more personal.
“It seems like they’ve tempered it a little bit lately. They are no longer as tactile with one another, and I have noticed a decline in their engaged eye contact. Even though they genuinely care about each other and will stop at nothing to help one another, we rarely witness their intense passion.
“Despite this, the pair clearly have huge levels of respect for each other, and are there for each other through everything,” he stated.
The pair’s romantic journey commenced in 2016 after a mutual friend introduced them. In his Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, Prince Harry revealed that he met Meghan for two covert meetings in Soho House after seeing a picture of her on Snapchat.
Before word of their relationship leaked out in October 2016, they had been dating secretly for a few months. A little more than a year later, they declared their engagement.
The couple shared never-before-seen pictures of Harry proposing to them. He set up a picnic blanket and electric candles in the grounds of Kensington Palace, which is close to their previous residence, and then popped the question with her dog Guy.
The royal wedding of the Sussexes took place in May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Idris Elba provided the DJ for the reception at Frogmore House, which featured fireworks over the lake. As senior members of the royal family, Harry and Meghan withdrew after the birth of their son Archie in May 2019 and relocated to America, where they currently reside with their son and daughter Lilibet.
