A new family member has been welcomed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! The royal couple has adopted Sinkie, an ailing chicken that was formerly owned by their close friend and neighbor Ellen DeGeneres, to add to the flock at their Montecito home.
Ellen, 65, confirmed the news and provided fans with an update on Sinkie on Instagram. She disclosed that at the Montecito estate she shares with her wife, Portia de Rossi, the bird had been harassed by other rescued chickens.
Ellen explained that Sinkie, who has just recently recovered from a broken fibula bone, had to move, but in the end, everything worked out because her friends Meghan and Harry took her on.
“Sinkie’s leg is fixed but our chickens were still picking on her so she had to be re-homed,” wrote the television personality. Fortunately, there was space in our friends Harry and Meghan’s coop for one more. Her royal title is yet to be determined.”
Fans were delighted by the update and hurried to leave comments. “Harry and Meghan are too adorable. One person wrote, “I’m sure Archie and Lili will take great care of little Sinkie.” Something like, “So happy she is safe and yes, being treated like royalty,” someone else joked. A third wrote in the meanwhile: “Sinkie is fortunate. She will be spoiled by Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Harry and Meghan have adopted a number of farm animals since moving to California in 2020, and they have plenty of space for more.
During an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey, the royal couple shared a sneak peek of their chicken coop, which is a red hen house with the charming name ‘Archie’s Chick Inn, Established 2021.’
Harry, 39, nodded at Meghan as he explained that they had saved their hens from a nearby factory farm, saying, “She’s always wanted chickens.”
“I simply adore saving lives,” Meghan answered.
Harry and Meghan are animal lovers who have also rescued dogs; their three current dogs can be real handfuls! Harry opened up about their daily lives with their pets during a video chat with WellChild Award winners in October 2022. We all need a dog to help us stay calm, I’ll tell you what. Now that I have three in this house. Thus, we essentially have five kids,” he said in jest.
“I have Guy, a rescue beagle, and Pula, a black Labrador. We also have a second rescue beagle named Mia. And every single day, the three of them run around chasing squirrels and giving us all kinds of trouble. But they are also emotional, emotional support dogs 100% when they’re behaving.”
