A royal baby’s due date and gender are typically kept secret from the public until the day of the baby’s birth.
The sharing of ultrasound images is subject to the same privacy regulations, though this was altered initially when Prince Harry and Meghan shared their sonogram with the world through their Netflix documentary series.

The fourth installment of the six-part series chronicling the complicated royal journey of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex featured an ultrasound scan image that was taken while Meghan was pregnant with Prince Archie.
The documentary also included more pictures of Meghan’s expanding baby bulge, including a series of amorous photobooth portraits taken soon after Prince Harry and Meghan learned they would be having their first child.
The Duchess tells Harry, “One of the things we connected on very early is you always wanted to be a dad, and I always wanted to be a mom.” The revelation highlights their shared desire to become parents.
“We started journaling the minute we found out we were pregnant,” she went on. All it said was, “Dear baby, we can’t wait to meet you.” Additionally, we would take brief pictures and record them in the journal.”
With the release of Prince Harry and Meghan’s baby scan, this type of information was made public for the first time in royal history.

Although Buckingham Palace has never stated clearly why the royal family chooses to keep their baby scans private, it does comply with the palace’s general privacy policies regarding private medical information.
After all, an ultrasound scan looks inside the uterus to determine whether the baby is developing normally and whether the pregnancy may be having any issues. That the most watched family in the world would decide to keep this private medical information to themselves makes perfect sense.
Following the birth of their first child, on May 6, 2019, Meghan and Harry welcomed their second child, a daughter named Lilibet, on June 4, 2021.
Another deviation from royal custom occurred when Harry and Meghan chose not to disclose the identities of Prince Archie’s godparents in public. Four names were eventually revealed to be close friends of Harry’s, Charlie van Straubenzee and the 7th Duke of Westminster, Mark Dyer, a family friend, and Tiggy Pettifer, the Duke’s former nanny.

Princess Lilibet’s godparents are also unknown, but Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry disclosed before her baptism that he had been asked to be the child’s godfather for Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series, which will premiere in December 2022.
