A royal insider has revealed in an explosive new biography that Prince William forbade Meghan Markle from wearing the late Princess Diana’s jewelry at her wedding.
It is reported that Prince Harry’s choice to wed the Suits star worried the 42-year-old Prince of Wales, who first proposed to the Princess of Wales with his later mother’s engagement ring.
According to reports, he begged his 39-year-old younger brother to “cool the relationship” so the actress would have time to get used to life as a royal before committing fully.
In his biography of the Princess of Wales, royal author Rob Jobson made the allegations, stating that there were rifts in the Sussex and Wales relationship long before Meghan, 42, became an official member of the family in 2018.
Jobson stated: “William, still worried about the match, even asked the Queen for guarantees that his brother’s future wife would not wear any of the jewelry that Diana, Princess of Wales, had previously worn, even though his wife Catherine had been permitted to wear some because of her status.”
The current heir apparent, who spent nearly ten years in a romantic relationship with Kate Middleton prior to their marriage, was allegedly alarmed by the speed at which Harry and Meghan were developing their relationship.
November 2017 saw the announcement of their engagement, which came a year after they made their relationship public. June 2016 marked the couple’s first encounter.
Jobson clarified, saying that Harry had believed that William and Catherine’s goodwill had vanished long before the events leading up to his wedding.
“William had confided in his brother that he thought it would be best to cool the relationship and give Meghan more time to get used to living as a royal.
Jobson continued, “Harry felt offended and thought it was an insult.”

His relationship with his brother quickly deteriorated as a direct result. Harry claims in his book Spare that William assaulted him physically.
Some of the book’s revelations include the assertion that Meghan’s relationship with William and Kate was rocky at first because she “ignored the royal hierarchy.”
Jobson asserted, “She had stamped on royal toes, not so much stepped on them.”
“The duchess was ‘taken aback’ but reluctantly handed it to Meghan when she asked to borrow Catherine’s lip gloss because she had forgotten her own.
Harry claims that after Meghan applied some to her lips and squeezed some onto her finger, she “grimaced.”
Following their resignation as working royals in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the Prince and Princess of Wales is now essentially nonexistent.
A string of candid interviews with the media and Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, further cemented their rift with the family, as they claimed to have experienced various forms of mistreatment within the royal family.

The couple claimed that unidentified members of the royal family had “concerns and conversations about how dark [her baby’s] skin might be” in one of the most shocking claims they ever made to Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
Omid Scobie stated in his book Endgame published in December of last year that King Charles and the Princess of Wales were the royals in question.
Jobson went on to clarify this, stating that Kate had a significant role in the Palace’s choice to issue a statement stating that “recollections may vary” regarding the incident.
