Sarah, Duchess of York has undergone a single mastectomy

Sarah Ferguson thanks fans after support amid breast cancer diagnosis

Sarah, Duchess of York, who underwent surgery after learning she had breast cancer, shared a heartfelt message.

On Monday, the 63-year-old author posted a picture of a pink flower with the caption, “Thank you so much for such kindness and support.”

It follows Sarah’s admission on the most recent episode of her podcast Tea Talks that she underwent a single mastectomy after a routine mammogram revealed she had an early stage of the disease.

The day before her surgery, she said she was taking her diagnosis as “a real gift to me to change my life” in an interview for one of her podcast episodes.

She reportedly left the King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone, central London, on Sunday and is now recuperating with her family at the Windsor residence she shares with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, known as Royal Lodge.

“Sarah, Duchess of York, was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer,” a spokesman for the royal said on Sunday. “The cancer was found during a routine mammogram screening.

She was informed that she needed to have surgery, which was successful. The prognosis is good, according to the duchess’ doctors, who are providing her with the best medical care. Her family is currently helping her recover.

“The Duchess wants to express her enormous gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days,” the spokesman continued. She is also extremely grateful to the mammogram staff who discovered her illness, which had no other symptoms, and she thinks that her experience highlights the significance of routine screening.

Listeners of Sarah’s podcast were admonished to “go and get checked, go and get screened, go do it.”

She talked about her love of play and “sense of adventure with nature” and stated that her fitness and strength goals are to become “super fit, super strong.”

The Duchess continued, “Now is my chance, and this extraordinary position I’m in right now means there’s no choice. I recently celebrated the birth of my third grandchild, Ernest Brooksbank, who is the son of Princess Eugenie.

“I am at a loss for words. I must be healthy and strong in order to undergo this procedure. Therefore, no decision is the best one.

Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 33, are Sarah’s children. Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and August and Ernest Brooksbank are Sarah’s grandchildren.

The three-grandmother who spoke at a Breast Cancer Foundation gala in 2019 and is a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust was not present at Royal Ascot last week.
