Famous people attract a lot of attention and must often be cautious about disclosing personal information. The royal family is well aware of this, as there have been several instances where their private messages have been leaked to the public. Sometimes the messages were mundane, but other times they contained personal information that the royals most likely did not want the public to know.
Princess Diana was caught having an explicit conversation with a male friend
A phone call Princess Diana had with a friend named James Gilbey was leaked to the public in the early 1990s. Diana told Gilbey about her day during the call, which took place in late 1989.
Despite Gilbey’s denial that he and Diana were romantically involved, the conversation implied that they were. Diana and Gilbey made kissing noises at each other, according to News.com.au. Gilbey also referred to her as “darling” and “Squidgy” (a nickname). Gilbey also told Diana that he imagined holding her close at night and talked about masturbation at another time.
Cyril Reenan, a ham radio enthusiast, recorded the conversation. It was eventually sold to The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper.
The phone call between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles was also leaked.

The scandal, dubbed “Camillagate” or “Tampongate,” involved an explicit conversation in which Charles expressed his desire to be Camilla’s tampon.
“Oh, my God. I’ll just hide in your underwear or something. It would be a lot simpler!” he exclaimed.
“Are you going to be a pair of knickers or something?” Camilla replied, “Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.”
“Or, God forbid, a Tampax,” Charles added. It was just my luck!”

A voicemail Prince William left for Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was recorded without his permission in the 2000s, when they were still just boyfriend and girlfriend.
William referred to Kate as “babykins” and “baby” in the voicemail. In contrast to his parents, however, his messages to Kate were not NSFW.

In the months leading up to her royal wedding in 2018, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and her father, Thomas Markle, were at odds, especially because he wouldn’t stop talking to the press. She wrote him a letter after the wedding urging him to reconsider his actions.
“Please stop lying, please stop causing so much pain, and please stop exploiting my marriage,” she pleaded. “I understand that you are so far down this rabbit hole that you believe (or may believe) there is no way out, but I believe that if you take a moment to pause, you will see that the ability to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.”
Thomas then decided to send the letter to the Daily Mail, a British tabloid newspaper. Meghan went on to file a lawsuit against the newspaper for invasion of privacy.
Prince Harry’s conversation with a fake Greta Thunberg made headline news
In 2020, Prince Harry’s phone call was leaked to the public for the first time.
In this case, two pranksters duped Harry into thinking he was speaking with Greta Thunberg, a teenage activist. He told the fake Thunberg about his life as a royal, his decision to step down as a royal, and how he and his wife have dealt with negative press during the conversation.
He also admitted that his family is “frightened of the tabloid media because they wield so much power and influence and have no morals.”
