What did Prince William and Prince Harry inherit from Princess Diana?

Although it has been nearly 24 years since Princess Diana was tragically murdered, her memory lives on through her family, friends, royal fans, and, of course, her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Diana’s sons were the primary beneficiaries of her estate under her will – but what did they inherit from their late mother? Take a look…

Diana’s engagement ring and Cartier watch

Prince William and Prince Harry were each able to select one special piece of Diana’s jewelry to commemorate her. Paul Burrell, her former butler, later revealed that William chose his mother’s Cartier watch, which her father John Spencer had given her, while Harry chose her sapphire engagement ring.

However, Paul added that when Prince William was preparing to propose to then-Kate Middleton, Harry offered his brother the ring.

While Harry was unable to propose to Meghan Markle with the famous ring, he did use two diamonds from his mother’s collection to create her custom-made engagement band.

Wedding dress

Diana’s two sons inherited her wedding gown, which was designed by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel and featured thousands of pearls, silk layers, and a 25-foot train.

William and Harry also inherited Diana's iconic wedding dress

And that was not the only memento left to the boys from their parents’ wedding. Additionally, they received the original text of Charles Spencer’s tribute to his sister at her Westminster Abbey funeral, as well as the score and lyrics to Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s rendition of Candle in the Wind, which was played at her funeral.

Finances

Finances According to the Press Association, Princess Diana left an estate worth £21 million at the time of her death, but more than £8 million was paid in inheritance tax, leaving a balance of £12,966,022. The sum was split evenly between William and Harry, but due to their young ages – William was 15 and Harry was 12 – the money was invested by royal advisors and had grown to £20 million by the time they reached adulthood.
