Prince Harry and Meghan Markle receive warm welcome in Colombia on first day of tour

After meeting Vice President Francia Márquez and her companion Rafael Yerney Pinillo for tea and coffee, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex started their four-day working visit to Colombia.

Prince Harry and Meghan dined on traditional pan de bono (Colombian cheese bread) and welcomed the vice president with gifts during their meeting.

When it comes to promoting a better, safer digital future and mental health landscape for children and the world, the 43-year-old Duchess was seen giving Ms. Marquez a warm greeting. Ms. Marquez stated that she feels the Sussexes and she share the same ideals and goals.

The Colegio Cultura Popular, a local children’s school, will be Harry and Meghan’s first court appearance. There, they will take part in an Insight Session and talk with students about the digital landscape and its effects on society.

In the upcoming days, Harry and Meghan are anticipated to attend the Petronio Álvarez Festival in Cali, as disclosed by the city’s mayor, Alejandro Eder.

Women’s empowerment, the military community, and the significance of mental health and digital literacy for today’s youth will be among the trip’s main themes.

1. “Special visit”

Prior to Harry and Meghan’s arrival, Ms. Marquez called the Sussexes’ trip a “very special visit” with the goal of fostering understanding and working together to combat cyberbullying.

Ms. Márquez, a human rights and environmental activist, said that after watching Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary, which debuted in December 2022, she was moved enough to approach Harry and Meghan about coming to the United States.

“I saw the Netflix series about their life, their story and that moved me and motivated me to say that this is a woman who deserves to come to our country and tell her story and her exchange will undoubtedly be an empowerment to so many women in the world,” she stated.

2. Tea time

Ms. Marquez showed respect for Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who passed away in 1997, during the tea.

HI! recognizes that she made the initial request for a visit from the couple over a year ago.

The Colombian government, Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation, the private sector, or some other source of funding has not been disclosed by the Sussexes’ entourage.

3. Details of fashion

For her first engagement, Meghan looked effortlessly stylish in a navy halter-neck two-piece by Veronica Beard.

Harry, meanwhile, was dressed in a blue open-collared shirt and a navy suit.

The Vice President, in collaboration with Luminate and The Archewell Foundation, will host a summit later on Thursday. It will bring leaders, activists, and experts together to talk about the need for a safer and more moral internet environment.
