The Duke of Sussex has stepped into a fantastic new role that he really loves.
The 39-year-old Prince Harry has been formally appointed to the Board of Directors of African Parks, a conservation organization.
The father of two has been closely involved with African Parks since 2016, during which time he has held the position of President.
“The Duke has dedicated his life’s work to advancing causes that he is passionate about, and that bring about permanent change for people and places,” reads a biography on the organization’s website.
“For over two decades, he has taken a deep personal interest in frontline conservation projects across Africa that work to protect the region’s natural resources and wildlife, for the benefit of local communities.”
He was a member of the team that worked with African Parks to carry out the 500 Elephants project’s initial phase in 2016.
The most recent event he co-hosted was in 2022, when he took a group of official US conservationists and philanthropists on a tour of African Parks’ managed protected areas in Zambia, Mozambique, and Rwanda.
The Duke has fond memories of Africa, having traveled there for the first time as a young boy.
He traveled to South Africa with his father, Prince Charles, in 1997, and it was there that he first met the Spice Girls.
Harry has traveled to Africa on both official and private occasions over the years. In 2016, during the early months of their relationship, he took his then-girlfriend, Meghan Markle, to Botswana.
Additionally, the Sussexes traveled to southern Africa in September 2019 with Prince Archie, who was four months old at the time.
Harry will undoubtedly be excited to travel to Africa in the future with his two-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet.
The Duke and Duchess moved to the US in 2020 after deciding to resign as senior royals, and they now live in Montecito, California, with their two kids.
With agreements with Netflix, Meghan’s podcast series with Spotify (which ended earlier this year), and their work with the Archewell Foundation, the couple has been establishing their new lives in the United States.
Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan traveled to New York for a summit commemorating World Mental Health Day.
The two have a long history of supporting internet safety and working to improve social media, especially for kids and teenagers.
