Princess of Wales on Mother's Day 2020

The Princess of Wales’ low-key Mother’s Day plans revealed

In the UK, Mother’s Day is observed on Sunday. According to a report in this week’s issue of HELLO!, the Princess of Wales can anticipate receiving flowers, handmade cards, and possibly some homemade treats, just like many other families who are celebrating this weekend.

While recuperating in Windsor after her scheduled abdominal surgery in January, Catherine is expected to have a quiet yet meaningful day at home with her three children: ten-year-old Prince George, eight-year-old Princess Charlotte, and five-year-old Prince Louis. Her husband, Prince William, who has been taking care of things at home, will be overseeing the activities.

Catherine, who is 42 years old, will undoubtedly be enjoying every moment of her time with her children before she resumes her responsibilities after Easter.

After years, she is finally relishing the experience of being a full-time mother without the added responsibility of balancing family life with royal duties and charitable obligations.

According to Emily Nash, the royal editor of HELLO!, Catherine has not been present for school runs or sports matches. However, she has had ample opportunity to spend quality time with her children at home during the recent weeks, which has likely been very beneficial for her.

“Her family is undeniably the focal point of her life, so having George, Charlotte, and Louis at home with her has undoubtedly greatly uplifted her mood.”

Historically, the members of the royal family have publicly acknowledged Mother’s Day by either sharing recently taken intimate family photographs or providing glimpses into their personal celebrations. Previously, Kensington Palace released two images: one depicting Catherine and her three children seated in a tree, and another capturing the Princess holding her younger son, Louis. The photographs were captured at Anmer Hall, the rural residence of the Wales family located in Norfolk.

In 2021, the palace also released a photograph of a cake that the royal children had personally baked for their mother. Additionally, they shared images of heartfelt cards written by the children to their deceased grandmother, Princess Diana, whom they lovingly refer to as Granny Diana.

Observers of the royal family are anticipating that the Princess will publicly acknowledge Mother’s Day this weekend, possibly by sharing a photograph. However, this seems improbable as Catherine has not made any public statements or official appearances since her surgery. She seems to be maintaining a discreet and inconspicuous presence until she is required to resume her professional duties.

Furthermore, this wouldn’t be the initial occasion when she has been absent from a public commemoration. In 2022, William and Catherine returned from their somewhat controversial Caribbean tour on Mother’s Day and chose to privately commemorate their reunion with their children.
