Kate Middleton Responds When a Fan Tells Her She Will Be a ‘Brilliant Princess of Wales’

When Prince William becomes the heir to the throne, Kate Middleton will most likely inherit Princess Diana’s title.

During an outing in Wales earlier this month, Kate Middleton had a heartfelt reaction when a fan paid her a meaningful compliment.

In honor of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Kate, 40, and Prince William, 39, paid a visit to Cardiff Castle with their children, Prince George, 8, and Princess Charlotte, 7, on June 4. Outside the castle, the family chatted with well-wishers during their outing.

A woman shook Kate’s hand and told her, “You’re going to be a brilliant Princess of Wales,” in a sweet moment.

Kate, visibly moved, responded, “Oh, that’s very kind.”

“I’m in good hands,” she added, gesturing towards William.

Twitter user @Hellen3030 captured the moment on camera and told PEOPLE: “The Cambridges are a lovely and humble family. I flew in from Miami last minute for the Platinum Jubilee and decided to travel to Cardiff the day before. I met wonderful people who wanted to meet them from all over the world. We didn’t find out about Prince George and Princess Charlotte until later. We were all enthralled by the Cambridges once we met them. I was late for the Platinum Party at the Palace because I missed my train back to London, but it was all worth it!”

When William’s father, Prince Charles, becomes King, Kate, who was given the title of Duchess of Cambridge upon her marriage to William in 2011, will most likely be known as the Princess of Wales (as her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, was before her).

As the future Queen, the mother of three faces increasing public expectations.

Sarah Gristwood, author of Elizabeth: The Queen and the Crown, previously told PEOPLE, “Those who know her say there is a real core of strength, and she did set her mind to the job.” “On the other hand, she’d have to be superhuman to not feel the strain.”

Kate is expected to flawlessly fulfill multiple roles as the future Queen raising a future King: princess, supportive spouse, hands-on mom, international bridge-builder, charity advocate, style icon, and more.

“The future Queen is a role model not only for the United Kingdom but also for the rest of the world,” says Myka Meier, author of Modern Etiquette Made Easy. “With cameras everywhere, the added pressure of catching even the tiniest eye movement makes everything she does a conscious effort. Everything about her is meticulously executed, from her perfectly poised posture to the way she descends a staircase or exits a vehicle.”

Kate, like Queen Elizabeth, keeps her cool under pressure. She’s also gained more confidence as a result of her royal work, which has helped propel her forward.

A close source tells PEOPLE, “Catherine is the type of woman who will take on whatever she needs to.” “If she has to step up to the plate, she has always done so.”
