After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, a lot of changes in regard to royal titles are anticipated.
Following King Charles III’s first televised speech, Her Majesty’s grandson Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton will no longer hold the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge; instead, they will assume the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales. Royal fans are thrilled about this development.
“William now takes on the Scottish titles that have meant so much to me as my heir. He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and assumes the duties I have held for the Duchy of Cornwall for more than 50 years “In his speech, he explained.
He added, confirming their titles: “Today, I’m proud to entitle him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, a title I’ve had the honor of holding for a significant portion of my life and service. Our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I am confident, continue to inspire and steer our national discourse with Catherine by his side, assisting in elevating the underdog to the foreground where critical assistance can be provided.”
In the past, Charles was frequently referred to as the Prince of Wales, but his second wife Camilla, who is now Queen Consort, decided against using the title because it was previously connected to his first wife Princess Diana. She adopted the title of Duchess of Cornwall instead.
The heir apparent and their partner, who in this case is William and Kate, inherit the title.
Several royal fans expressed their joy that Duchess Kate could assume the title that was last used in public by her late mother-in-law on social media in anticipation of this change.
“If she chooses, the Duchess of Cambridge may use the title. I wish she would. One Twitter user stated that she is a perfect replacement for Diana, who last used the title in public. Another user added that King Charles should install William as Prince of Wales in order for William and Kate to serve as our new Prince and Princess of Wales.”
“Surely Diana’s son & wife can use it soon,” they continued.
This sentiment has been around for a while because, months before the Queen passed away, Twitter users expressed a similar sentiment: “When Prince Charles is crowned King of England, he and Kate will become Prince and Prince of Wales. A proud Dianna would be.”
Another person said: “William’s mother Diana would be proud that her son married well to such a thoughtful caring girl! The UK needs a new Princess & Kate is the one to carry it off!”
At Balmoral on Thursday afternoon, Queen Elizabeth passed away “peacefully” in the company of some of her loved ones, including her children King Charles and Princess Anne.
On Saturday during the Accession Council, which will be broadcast on television for the first time, Charles will be formally proclaimed monarch.
