The three-day visit to Canada by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has commenced.
In honor of the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, are joining competitors at a winter training camp, and they appear to be getting into the spirit of things already!
The couple walk out hand in hand
The ex-working royals put on a sweet front, holding each other close and grinning as they made their way to the winter training camp.
Harry was led to the adaptive ski so he could have a go at it after they were warmly welcomed by camp participants and organizers. He joked, “Do I need to sign a waiver?” which made his wife laugh heartily.
Harry and Meghan interact with participants
Dressed for a windy and snowy day, the Duke and Duchess have arrived at the winter training camp and are mingling with athletes and officials at the Olympic Station in Whistler.
Harry appeared in the photo sporting a beanie that covered his ginger hair, a thick black jacket, dark jeans, and brown winter snow boots. Meghan, on the other hand, wore a chic black beanie along with an off-white Calvin Klein puffer overcoat, high-top ski boots, and a white CO sweater over a pair of Frame jeans. At the base of the ski slopes, the couple could be seen bending in the snow and interacting with bob sledders. Meghan cheered from the sidelines and snapped photos of Harry as he ventured onto the slopes.
Invictus Games participants gush about Prince Harry
Speaking with reporters, American competitor Ivan Morera expressed his gratitude to Harry for his support during the Invictus Games.
Reportedly, the American contestant expressed his excitement to the Duke about “shaking his hand, saying ‘thank you for your service, and thank you for the opportunity.'” Additionally, he mentioned how much he “respected” Harry because of the way that Harry “understands military personnel because of his experience.”
A royal goodbye!
Just as Harry and Meghan were leaving, some British men started singing “God Save the King.”
The star of Suits cheerfully waved to the throng before boarding their waiting vehicle.
The Sussexes’ arrival in Canada
The Sussexes, who had flown from Santa Barbara, close to their Montecito home, were seen landing in a private jet at Vancouver airport on Tuesday at lunchtime local time.
Their trip takes place a few days after Harry and Meghan unveiled their new “one-stop shop” for all of their activities, Sussex.com, run by the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Additionally, Meghan’s new contract with Lemonada Media to produce a new podcast series was revealed on Tuesday. Following the conclusion of Meghan’s Archetypes show’s first season last summer, the Sussexes’ contract with Spotify came to an end.
Before the Games the following year, the couple will get to know team managers, coaches, and athletes while participating in winter adaptive sports.
What are the Invictus Games?
In 2014, Prince Harry established the Invictus Games, an international multisport competition for ill, injured, and wounded service members and veterans.
More than 500 athletes from more than 20 countries will compete in adaptive sports, including the newest winter sports of wheelchair curling, skeleton, nordic skiing, and alpine skiing, at the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.
Why Canada is so special to Harry and Meghan
When the American actress Meghan started dating Harry in 2016, she was working and residing in Canada. The Prince was traveling across the Atlantic to Toronto to meet his future wife while she was starring in the US legal drama Suits.
Not too long before they announced their engagement, the couple made their official debut in 2017 at the Invictus Games Toronto.
The Duke and Duchess, along with infant Archie, took a long vacation from their royal duties in late 2019 and spent time on Vancouver Island.
They spent Christmas and the first few weeks of 2020, after announcing their decision to resign as senior royals, renting the Mille Fleurs mansion in North Saanich, on the island.
